Elanco Beef Consultants Forum Brings Vets and Nutritionists Together

by

This month I attended the Elanco Beef Consultants forum which included invited vets and beef nutritionists from across Canada and the Northern US. After two days of interacting with this segment of the industry one thing is firmly clear to me. These people deeply care about their customers. Much of the scheduled sessions and informal chats in the hallways were usually centered on one thing. To provide a higher level of service to the feedyard, ranch or dairy customer.

As the producer you can look at your relationship with your vet or nutritionist as either a member of the production team or just another supplier. In talking to some of the conference attendees it is that cut and dry. In my mind neither is right or wrong nor does either one exemplifie success versus failure. Producers have to run their operation in a manner that fits their management style or personality.

This group of beef and dairy consultants spent the entire two days learning about relationship building, cattle marketing, new growth technology studies and product updates. All of this for the betterment of the customer. With the US dairy business in financial distress and the cattle on feed shrinking in North America, all stakeholders are trying to find or create answers for the producer so that both the producer and the consultant have businesses in the future. Based on the willingness to learn and the care and concern the consultants had for the industry I would suggest that the producers in North America are in great hands going forward.
