Questions from Ranchers and Cattle Feeders - Gordon Cove, CEO of ALMA

by

This is part two of my interview with the President and CEO of the Alberta Livestock Meat Agency (ALMA), Gordon Cove.  In this interview I asked questions provided to me by producers.  I gathered questions from Twitter and Agriville and asked them in no particular order to Mr. Cove.  I would suggest that many people at the primary level are still waiting to see how the ALMA project will positively impact there financial statement on the ranch or in the feedyard.  As I mentioned before Mr. Cove and his team face large challenges and have lofty objectives while also battling some perceptions at the ground level.  The bigger question is whether or not livestock and meat industry can stay financially viable in the short term to allow for ALMA to accomplish some longer term goals.  For the sake of the ranchers, pork producers and cattle feeders I hope that ALMA becomes what the Alberta government intended.  The Alberta government seems very committed to establishing ALMA as the vehicle to achieve the recovery the industry needs.  I would like to thank Mr. Cove for sitting down with me to discuss some of the issues and provide a clearer picture of what ALMA is trying to accomplish for the industry.
