At one time we mainly used shovels to move grain. When the auger was invented it was a huge innovation for not only moving grain but also for saving the backs of farmers. At CropWeek there was more augers than you would believe. The auger is no longer the only way to move grain today on the farm though. The grain vac has become very popular on many farms in North America. One of the main reasons is that the grain vac keeps the farmer out of the bin dust which is incredibly important for the longevity of the farmers lungs. At the same time grain vacs provide high capacity throughput ensure efficient load out times.
I talked to Lauren Wiens from Brandt Agricultural Products about why some farmers are choosing grain vacs over augers.
