NCBA10 - Cattlemen are Using Databases to Manage Their Operations

by

When your financial margins are under pressure people tend to pay more attention to the nuts and bolts of their operations.  Many consultants would say that you have to be doing this all the time not in just stressful times.

At the NCBA tradeshow it was very clear that cattlemen are moving closer to the digitized age.  Reading your feed bunks or filling out feed sheets with pencil and paper are going the way of the dinosaur.  Producers that don’t look at close outs and base success on how much money they have at the end of the year are not managing their operations and are at a management disadvantage to their peers.  The other key point is that many of these programs are affordable for all sizes of producers and just super large operators.

These programs help producers track costs and revenues on different lots that you determine.  Just watching your cattle and say, “I know what my cattle do,” is no longer acceptable in today’s ranching and feeding environment.

Mark Schoenfeld is from ViewTrak Technologies.  Viewtrak sells database programs to every level of the beef value chain which includes ranchers, feeders, auction markets and beef processors.  In this video Mark talks discusses why many producers are moving to these types of programs to track their operations better.
