With the losses that have been suffered in the feeding industry in 2010 it is no surprise that there is a very keen interest in what the analysts are saying about the cattle market in 2010.
Before I attended the NCBA convention many people told me that the highlight of the show is the Cattlefax presentation on Friday morning. I had a chance to talk to Duane Lenz, the Manager of Operations and Analyst Services regarding his 2010 cattle market outlook.
Many feeders and ranchers are trying to figure out if the market will turn bullish based on the continued constricting supply of calves. Others are very curious as to whether the US will see higher exports due to their weaker currency. Canadians are focused on the basis and whether the live cattle prices will rise to better negate the strong Canadian dollar. All in all this is a very interesting time to be a cattle market analyst and forecaster.
