Part 1 - Mayo Schmidt - The Business of Viterra

by

Mayo Schmidt is the CEO and President of Viterra.  In 2009 Mayo Schmidt was awarded the top CEO by Canadian Business magazine.  I am very grateful that Viterra granted RealAgriculture this opportunity to get up and close and personal with the man regarded as creating a Canadian based, new global player in the world of agriculture.  Known to be firm on execution and financial discipline, Mayo Schmidt is making a name for himself and Viterra on the global stage.

Since the merger of Agricore United and Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, Viterra has been on a path of growth.  Recently they completed the acquisition of ABB Grain in Australia are evaluating several other possible growth opportunities globally.  In Western Canada Viterra is responsible for 42% of the grain logistics and holds the majority of the retail crop input business.

In part one of this two part interview I ask Mayo about the Viterra seed business, livestock services business, grain logistics business, and the acquisition of ABB grain.

It is very clear that Viterra is on an aggressive growth strategy that really is a Canadian success story.  Whether you are a customer of Viterra or not, you have to be impressed by the business success of this company.
