Is the Fog Ninety Days Ago to Blame?

by

If I had a dollar for every time I have heard about the fog 90 days ago causing all this spring time moisture I would be getting rather wealthy at this point.  For those of you that have never heard the prediction it goes as follows.  Ninety days after a fog you are guaranteed rain.

Is this why we are experiencing winter in May and as I look out my kitchen window I see sledding weather and not weather conducive to seeding?  The moisture is nice but many farmers would like to get started in the field sometime soon.

For those of you that did not listen to my interview with David Phillips three weeks ago, apart of that interview was us talking about the myth of fog and 90 day rain.  I have edited the interview down to just the discussion about 90 day rain.  If you want to hear the complete weather forecast and discussion, click here

David Phillips Discusses Whether Fog Means Rain in Ninety Days

Based on the interview it would seem that David and most farmers disagree.  I have heard from several people that they marked the fog on their calendar and it has almost worked out perfectly this spring.  Apparently the legend of 90 day fog will live on based on what has happened this spring.

Below is a video of the what it looked like on my farm road on May 5th, 2010.  As you can see it was still snowing which has really pushed back harvest.
