The Rules if You Decide to Harvest Volunteer Round-up Ready Canola in 2010? - Trish Jordan, Monsanto

With all the wet and soggy weather that Western Canada has had this spring some things have become a reality that in normal years you would never consider. One of these things is the consideration being given to actually taking your volunteer canola crop to harvest.

Some farmers in areas of Saskatchewan have been unable to seed so they are potentially turning to drastic measures. Trying to grow out your volunteer canola crop is a less than ideal option and should not an automatic decision even if you have not been able to get into the field yet. There are many agronomic concerns but I thought it would be beneficial to talk with Monsanto and try to understand how a grower can go ahead and not violate the prior years TUA agreement.

Below is an interview with Monsanto Canada’s spokesperson, Trish Jordan.
