Wheat School: Who is the GFO?

We have no shortage of farmer led groups in Canada. Almost every crop has a growers association that represents their interests in Ottawa, tries to create demand for the commodity with end users and consumers, supports the agronomics of the crop and provides services to the members. Many times this can feel disjointed and does not allow for a whole approach especially when it means going to Ottawa.

The Ontario corn, soybean and wheat growers are taking a different approach. In January 2010 the Grain Farmers of Ontario or GFO was formed to represent the interests of all three crop types under one umbrella.

Barry Senft is the Chief Executive Officer of the Grain Farmers of Ontario (GFO). I talked to him about who makes up the GFO and what are the objectives.
