Commentary on Canadian Agriculture - Jeffrey Simpson, Globe and Mail

by

One of the huge perks of this job is my ability to meet and interact with cool interesting people from across the country. I have had a chance to hear Jeffrey Simpson speak twice this summer. Jeffrey is the national affairs columnist at the Globe and Mail and also has received the Order of Canada along with many other distinguished writing awards.

This is one of my favourite interviews because I avidly read Jeffrey’s column and consider him one of Canada’s great columnists.  I enjoy his writing skill and ability to provide a thought provoking editorial.  His commentary a couple months ago was my inspiration for my editorial entitled, “Can Agriculture Speak With One Voice?

Although Jeffrey is not what I call an ag-insider, but his knowledge of national affairs is unquestioned.  He ties in his political and economic knowledge to raise some great comments and questions about agriculture.  Jeffrey gives his views on….whether agriculture can speak with one voice, the future longevity of the quota system, the lack of ability of the Conservatives to enact change, the role the US plays in the future of agriculture in Canada and much more.
