Beef Market Update – The Unknowns Continue to Dominate – Anne Dunford

Every equation has a set of variables that impact the outcome.  All variables have different levels of sensitivities and betas.  The current fall run is shaping up to be a very interesting one.  All the variables seem to be up in the air and creating a real sense of uncertainty.  The interesting fact is that this uncertainty does not seem to be impacting the risk profile of  the large feeders who are paying high prices for feeder cattle.

The rancher has seen a healthy increase in the value of his yearlings compared to last year and will be faced with the interesting decision of, “do I hold back more heifers or sell them?
