When farmers make decisions on the varieties that they are going to purchase many farmers enact different strategies.  For a vast amount of farmers the decision is based on trial results that are published by private companies and independent sources.

There is just one problem with that….The prairie canola variety trials have been abandoned by a number of different seed companies for various reasons.  None of which are that they don’t want farmers to have independent data.  The reasons for the program falling apart is that the protocol was ancient and not fair to all participants.

In this weeks episode of the Canola School I talk to Lyndsey Smith, Editor of Grainews about some of the issues regarding these independent trials and how we get them back in 2011 for the benefit of all seed companies and farmers.
