The Silage Blade Gets a Much Needed Facelift

One of my favourite things to do at a farm show is check out some of the cool new inventions that people have come up with. Most of the time the inventions really have limited scope and will provide little value to the greater farming community except for a few neighbours.

But once in awhile I stumble across someone that I think has something cool.  At Canada’s Outdoor Farm show I met John van Lierop who has come up with a new silage blade prototype that he promises will save a lot of problems at silage harvest.  If you look at a silage blade what is one of the main points of inefficiency?  Most farmers will tell you that not getting any silage packed between the tractor tires is incredibly troublesome.  With fuel price going up, silage trucks getting bigger, farmers need every pass of the silage packer to be as efficient as possible.

ARE YOUR INTERESTED IN GETTING A PATENT FOR YOUR FARM INVENTION?

John’s new blade has end plates that move in and out hydraulically, and a hydraulic press tire in behind the blade that packs silage between the tractor tires.  As John state to me, “I solve problems for farmers.”  If this prototype can get off the ground I think that John will do exactly what he set out to do.
