Chuck Penner Talks About Lentil Pricing

by

Its not only a struggle to decide what to grow but also how to price the crop in this volatile pricing market.  With special crops price discovery is an even bigger challenge fro many producers.  With the poor growing conditions last year, lentil growers that got the crop off in a timely fashion and got number ones did quite handsomely but others received just feed.  Like many special crops, when you win, you win big but pricing is not an easy task.

For some farmers in the prairies, trying to decide on acres of canola and lentils is a real battle because of how good those two crops have been for income statements the past couple years.  The loser will be cereal acres this year while the story for lentils appears to still be a good one.

At CropWeek 2011 I spoke with Chuck Penner about about the lentil markets nad what farmers can consider for the rest of the 2010 crop and looking forward to the 2011 crop as well.
