AgExpo2011 - Farmers Are Still Trying to Make Seeding Decisions - Ron Brand

by

Since early October canola has been the story for many Western Canadian farmers. In the fall some farmers were talking about seeding their whole farm to canola in total disregard for rotations in the quest to maximize profit. Talk of 20-22 million acres of canola was very popular speculation. Turn the clock forward to the beginning of March and now we have a situation where certain areas of the west look to be very wet which has reduced the amount of canola acres forecasted.   In addition to that, potentially increasing wheat acres due to to rising PRO’s has put increased pressure on pulse and barley acres.

At Ag-Expo in Lethbridge, I spoke to Ron Brand, Canterra Seeds about some of the decisions that Western Canadian farmers are having to make right now.  Ron is the Sales and Marketing Manager with Canterra Seeds.  Canterra has genetics in all the major crop types in the west which provides Ron with a very well rounded perspective on current seeding intentions.
