Seeding Intentions & Timing in Manitoba

by

There is no doubt that this year farmers in the Red River Valley region of Manitoba will be watching water levels closely. An above average amount of snow this winter as well as runoff from upstream could mean trouble for anyone caught in the flood plains. A slow melt so far has helped brighten the outlook, but no one’s out of the woods yet. It’s by no means anything they haven’t seen before, but it does affect what farmers seed and when they seed it.

I talked to Harry Siemens, Siemenssays.com about the conditions in Manitoba right now and how soon farmers will be seeding. Harry and I also discussed the seeding intentions in Manitoba and what are the big winners and losers in the acreage battle.  Will soybeans take home the gold or will spring wheat really make money for farmers in Manitoba.
