AAAAHHH, COME ON! This is the standard “wake up and look out the window” response these days. “Wet” is the descriptive word of choice around most of the western prairies these days. It’s been coming in all forms lately too, rain, snow, sleet, hail, floodwater, you name it. The closer we come to that critical canola seeding timeframe of early May, the more farmers pace the floor and wring their hands waiting to get in the field.
It’s at this point that most farmers start to informally “poll” their neighbours regarding who’s doing what and where. Call it a coping mechanism or just an excuse to crack a beer with some friends, but the seeding date speculation game is a normal part of spring. Here at RealAgriculture, we thought we would join in as well. For this weeks episode of the Canola School, we talked to a group of farmers from all over the western prairies and asked them questions about what’s going on in their neck of the woods.
