Conditions across a portion of the prairies have created a kind of “perfect storm” when it comes to conditions for weed growth. Cool conditions have delayed emergence of a number of weeds, causing them to be missed in a pre-seed burn scenario. Wet conditions have kept farmers from getting in to spray in a timely manner. A lot of farmers in this case are looking at a second pass or even a delayed first pass situation. This week on the Canola School, we talk to Steve Laroque, independent crop consultant and owner of Beyond Agronomy.
In this episode, Steve talks about some of the risks associated with spraying close to bud stage, and the importance of knowing what’s going on in your field. Identifying where your crop is when it comes to growth stage, and where your canola is at risk when it comes to stress and varietal characteristics are all critically important when it comes to making that judgement call of spraying or not spraying.
