Weatherfarm Offers Farmers More than Just the Weather

by

Between the internet, the radio the t.v., the newspaper your phone or your neighbour, there are a host of options when it comes to getting your local weather forecast. When you’re farming however, you need a degree of accuracy on a local level that most times can only be provided by a drive to the field. Is it too windy to spray? How much rain did I get on that quarter? Have the conditions been right for a disease outbreak in my area? Questions like that are too localized to get from anyone but yourself and sometimes a drive to the field can be less than convenient.

Weatherfarm offers producers across the west just those kinds of specifics minus the trip to the field. Weatherfarm is a network of approximately 1000 interconnected weather stations spread out across the prairies. The station is available for purchase from the Canadian Wheat Board to producers and can be placed exactly where they need it for wireless, real time information on weather conditions. I spoke to Patrick Weatherald of the CWB about the features and the benefits producers can receive from Weatherfarm.
