Under the Microscope: Two Things Farmers Need To Look Out For

For farmers in the West finished harvest, there is a tendency to sit back and breathe a big sigh of relief and rightly so. However, as any farmer who’s had a bin full of grain go bad can tell you, it’s not a time to sit back and forget about that crop. Monitoring and conditioning of that crop are critical now, especially if that crop went in hot.

Knowing what went in to your bin is important if your crop was exposed to colder temperatures also. Frost damage can vary in severity and can in some cases go undetected on a purely visual inspection. This week on Under the Microscope, Holly Gelech of BioVision Seed Labs talks about two kinds of damage seed can undergo due to temperature, and what farmers should know about it.
