StatsCan Releases November Production Report

by

StatsCan released the November 2011 Production report for field crops this morning.

Jon Driedger from FarmLink told me over the phone that, “the numbers are as expected, this is diplayed in the fact that the market is flat today.”

SEE THE REPORT

When I look at the report several things stick out for me.

  • Corn production was down in Ontario after record yields in 2010 and a very wet spring n 2011.  We shouldn’t be surprised by this production decline.
  • there was 14 million tonnes of canola produced which is only 1 million tonnes away from the Canola Council’s goal of 15 million by 2015.
  • Durum wheats production increase was 36%.  This is amazing and even more interesting is the discussion that we will see another increase in 2012 based on
  • Considering the wet spring in many areas it says a lot about the perseverance of Canadian farmers to achieve yield.

Based on discussion with several commodity analysts this morning it would appear that this report follows the expectations of the industry and farmers.
