Beef Market Update - Cattle Industry Sees Opportunity to Make Money in 2012

by

Volatility was the recurring theme in the cattle industry over 2011. The fact is that the mood created by that volatility has carried into 2012. Even with things looking up for producers, the violent swings of the 2011 market are tempering any optimism with caution. Those sentiments were apparent at this year’s Tiffin Conference as producers and industry members gathered to talk about the future of the cattle industry.

A big part of that future lies in export markets. Any real growth in the industry has to take place on that level. That means first and foremost that we have to gain an understanding of those markets. What role does meat play in their daily routine? Could beef fit there? What price barriers are there to increased beef consumption? How competitive is beef compared to other protein sources? In this episode of the Beef Market Update, I talk to Anne Dunford about some of those things as well as the current state of the industry and the presentation she gave at this years Tiffin Conference.
