FarmTech 2012 – Gerry Ritz – The Realities of an Open Market for Wheat and Barley

Federal Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz was in attendance at FarmTech in Edmonton.  He spoke to the 1600 attendees about the huge aoportunities in Canadian agriculture.  Of course of one the topics was the upcoming changes to the marketing sytsem for wheat and barley coming August 1, 2012 in Western Canada.

There were a number of questions put to the Minister by the media:

– What are farmers saying to you about the coming open market environment?

– Are you optimistic about the future of the new CWB?

-Are you still confident you can make the transition by August 1st 2012?

-Will there be regulation to ensure producers see equal access to transport?

-What will you do to reduce regulatory barriers to farmers looking to sell in the new system?

The video below is the media scrum that Mr. Ritz took part in at FarmTech 2012.
