RealWeatherwatch - Ontario Farmers Looking at a Potentially Short Growing Season

For farmers looking for a different weather story than last year’s, you might be out of luck. Although most of us know that there is no sure-fire, 100% accurate weather forecast, the spring and summer forecast for Ontario doesn’t look all that encouraging. According to meteorologist Art Douglas, a short growing season due to moisture and cooler than normal temperatures may be the story this year. Those cooler than normal temperatures brought about by El Nino could cause delayed planting in parts of Ontario in the early spring. That same weather system could also cause some early frost problems as we head into late summer. Not exactly news that farmers are excited to hear, but keep in mind that the predictions for the West this year were for a bitterly cold winter and people ended up golfing in early February. I know its not much to hold on to, but it’s better odds than the lottery.
