I was listening to CBC Radio this morning and I thought this was a pretty good discussion of the political side of the Viterra takeover. In particular the challenges that Brad Wall has with explaining the three way deal to residents of Saskatchewan. Viterra is a different kind of company than Potash Corp and therefore a foreign ownership overide by the Federal Government is unlikely.

Brad Wall has mentioned that a complete foreign takeover might be better than a domestic player reducing jobs and integrating two domestic business’s. With the rumoured three way deal, it will be up to the competition bureau to analyze the deal to ensure that there is still enough competition to protect farmers and the general public.
It will be interesting to see how Premier Brad Wall responds in the coming weeks as this deal develops.
