PNEU-DART System Allows Producers to Treat Cattle From a Distance

by

Running a ranch can be tough work in the large open space of Western Canada. Animals get spread out, the landscape doesn’t allow you to get close to the animals always and labor is hard to come by.  This is where the where the PNEU-DART System comes into play.  Now the PNEU-DART does come with some controversy.  Some believe that inaccurate shots could lead to meat issues and surprises at the packing plant.  Others told me at NCBA that the PNEU-DART provides some real value for the rancher.

The PNEU-Dart System is essentially a dart-gun that allows you to deliver medication to an animal via a syringe-like projectile. The gun offers a much greater range than other delivery methods and allows you to treat the animal in the pen as opposed to the chute. It’s a much less stressful option for an animal that is in distress. We got a look at the PNEU-DART gun at NCBA 2012 from Tim Hancock of PNEU-DART Inc.
