Pulse School - Roots - Assessing The Brain of the Plant

by

Roots are the brains of all crop types, including pulse crops.  Inoculants play a key role in making sure the root fixes nitrogen properly in the soil.  Healthy roots mean a healthy plant and the opportunity to create yield above ground.

Making an agronomic decision without the proper follow up is really making stabs in the dark.  Too many times farmers look at what is happening above ground and not what is happening in the soil with the root.  Danielle Fletcher, Becker Underwood gets her hands dirty by digging up some pea roots to take a closer look at the impact of nodulation in the field.  Danielle shows us what healthy nodules look like and what is important in terms of nodule color, population and size to determine success.
