Soybean School - Seeing the Difference that Early Planting Makes

Producers and agronomists have both touted the benefits of early planting when it comes to soybeans. Just how much of a benefit is it? Considering the relatively short season for soybeans in Ontario, three to four weeks can pay off at harvest. That early planting doesn’t come without risk. Cold temperatures and other adverse early season conditions could cost you your crop if things don’t go according to plan.

This year in parts of Ontario that plan came together nicely. Conditions were close to ideal for producers who planted in late April and it shows. In this episode of the Soybean School, OMAFRA Provincial Soybean Specialist Horst Bohner gives us a firsthand look at the difference planting early can make in the development of your soybean crop.
