There’s no information in the agricultural world that’s as coveted as the weather. It informs our decisions on when to plant, when to spray, when to harvest as well as a host of other decisions. It also varies from field to field making focused and localized weather very important to all those decisions. Being able to monitor the condition of your fields on that level can be very valuable.
WeatherCentral.ca offers producers extremely localized weather data for individual field locations. The service allows producers to log in and monitor current hourly weather patterns as well as look ahead more generally up to 10 days. It offers a spray cast feature that helps alert and inform producers on the best times to spray. It also offers unique features that monitor growth stages of crops like corn and sends text or email alerts to users to notify them as to when their crop has reached that stage. I spoke to Karla Jackson of Weather Central and Steve Denys of PRIDE Seeds about their partnership on Weather Central and how it can help producers make the best decisions possible.
