BASF Canada Inc. announced this week the registration of Xemium as an active ingredient. It’s an interesting roll-out of a new active, as it’s not actually available in any fungicide formulations for broad acre crops as of yet. The fungicide, a carboxamide, is however now registered for use on a number of row crops and horticultural crops. The plan going forward would be to add the ingredient to fungicide products in the not-so-distant future, though the company can’t say at this time which crops the new products will be for. Stay tuned for that.
In the meantime, BASF says in a news release that Xemium is unique in its ability to work systemically in a plant, and actually offers both preventative and curative properties. Because of its staying power and mobility, Xemium’s presence in fungicides will offer protection to parts of the plants that didn’t actually receive spray.
