Andrew Ramlo on Canada's Demographic Shift

The face of Canada is constantly changing, however, a great deal of those changes happen so slowly they go unnoticed. But sometimes changes take place that can’t help but be felt. Any of those shifts that involve the famous or infamous “baby boomer” generation tend to be some of the more noticeable demographic shifts. That’s where we stand when it comes to the shift going on in North America right now and where we will be as that generation continues to age and change. That shift has changed and will continue to change a number of the ways we “do” agriculture. Everything from how we fill jobs to what we produce is subject to change.

Andrew Ramlo, Executive Director of Urban Futures spoke about Canada’s demographic changes and what they mean for agriculture and the beef industry in particular at the 2012 International Livestock Congress. I spoke to him there.
