Pork producers in Canada continue to take a beating as what looked like a period of profitable production was turned on its head by high corn prices. Some producers who didn’t lock in some kind of a contract price are getting out while they can, selling their stock at a loss to avoid even greater losses in the future. The current environment is the last straw for some farmers causing what appears to be an exodus of independent producers out of pork production in Western Canada.

Harry Siemens of SiemensSays.com has been following the hog industry crisis and talking with producers in the West. Shaun Haney spoke to Harry via Skype about the current state of the Pork Industry in Western Canada and what the future holds for producers.
