Wheat School - Don't Hold Out for Protein Premiums this Fall

Did your wheat crop make you smile this year? Good yields and high protein in the face of strong commodity prices is the coveted winning trifecta of the wheat world. Unfortunately, Canadian wheat growers are not the only ones with bins full of high protein, quality wheat. The traditional high protein spreads only happen when there isn’t enough high protein wheat to go around. This year is not that year.

While there will always be a market for high quality wheat, Chuck Penner, founder of LeftField Commodity Research, explains in this episode of the Wheat School why holding out for a few cents of a protein premium may be penny wise but pound foolish.
