Securing a Land Base with a Farmer Resume

by

Being your own boss, as farmers are, should mean you don’t ever have to write up a witty resume, right? Well, maybe not. In the quest to secure a land base from the ever-increasing number of non-farming landlords, farmers now and in the future are going to have to get creative in how they approach potential business partners.

Willie Huot, a farm business management and economic extension specialist with North Dakota State University, suggests farmers put together a concise resume for landowners — a one-page document that highlights your management objectives of the land, a brief re-cap of your farming experience, any advanced training you may have and how you plan to manage risk. In this video, Bern Tobin asks Huot to expand on why he feels this is an important part of modern day farming.
