Challenge your Thinking on Double Crop Soybeans: Richter

by

Think double cropping soybeans after wheat is an outlandish idea?  In reality, there are just as many or more accumulated heat units from July onward as the entire growing season in Western Canada, and that area is expanding acres at an incredible rate. The key to making it work is meticulous variety selection (shorter season, taller characteristics) and a heavy seeding rate.

Shaun Haney asked Eric Richter of Syngenta Canada for his thoughts on double crop soybeans. In this video, he offers up several management tips for ensuring success with double crop beans, and adds that if you treat the “extra” crop as a means to use up excess seed, you’ll get out of it what you put in. Treat it as an excellent revenue opportunity, however, and success is much more likely.
