Beef Research School: On-Farm & Feedlot Strategies to Manage AMR

by

Responsible, appropriate use of antimicrobial products is a cornerstone of managing resistance to these products in both humans and livestock. For many outside the livestock industry, a lack of understanding about the use of these products, their administration and withdrawal times has created misconceptions and undue concern over the risk of antimicrobial resistance in beef production.

In this third in a series of three videos on antimicrobial resistance, Dr. Calvin Booker, DVM, sets the record straight on four misconceptions that consumers have about beef production and antimicrobial usage. He also outlines how both producers and feedlot operators make decisions on antimicrobial use, and discusses what producers can and are doing to manage the risk of antimicrobial resistance.
