Canola School: Prepping for Seeding — Tips for New and Not-So-New Seeders

Do you consider a top hat and monocle essential dress for seeding season? Do you carry one of those little dogs in a handbag inside your tractor cab with you? If so, it makes sense that you would be driving around your field throwing canola seed all over the place through broken hoses and missing whole rows with plugged downspouts. I mean, come on, it’s only money!

For the rest of us, however, pre-seed maintenance on the seeder is a regular part of each season to avoid costly losses or misses in the field. In this video, Shawn Senko of the Canola Council of Canada provides some guidance as to what we should be looking for on our seeders prior to seeding — from hoses and manifolds, to openers and packer wheels.
