Enlist Duo Herbicide Receives Canadian Approval

by

Dow AgroSciences LLC has announced the full Canadian approval of Enlist Duo herbicide, with Colex-D technology, by Health Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA). Canada is the first country to approve the Enlist weed control system that offers built-in 2,4-D tolerance in corn and soybean varieties.

Enlist Duo provides the weed control and peace of mind that Canadian farmers expect from their weed management tools, especially when dealing with hard-to-control and resistant weeds, the company says in a press release. Enlist Duo features near-zero volatility, minimized potential for drift, lower odour and better handling characteristics through a technology package called Colex-D technology, Dow AgroSciences says. A comprehensive stewardship program has been developed and is designed to help farmers succeed while promoting responsible use of the Enlist System.

Approval of the trait for corn and soybeans in Canada was received last October by Health Canada and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. With the Enlist Duo herbicide registration by the PMRA, both components of the Enlist Weed Control System in corn and soybeans have been approved for use in Canada. According to the company, seed production and supply of Enlist Duo herbicide will begin to ramp up to support the anticipated Enlist launch.

Dow AgroSciences is working with regulatory agencies in key export geographies to advance commercialization of Enlist corn and soybeans in Canada, the company says. At present, the trait is in the process of approval in the United States. The planned launch for the soybean varieties has been and still is 2015, according to a spokesperson from Dow AgroSciences. Corn variety availability was tentatively planned for 2014, and is still possible, however details are not firm at this point.
