While several Ontario tracks are running right now, horse racing in Ontario is still struggling and the future is fraught with uncertainties. Standardbred racing has been hit particularly hard, and political wrangling around casinos going in, then not, in southern Ontario has those in the industry wondering what the next few years look like for gaming in the province.
RealAgriculture.com’s editor, Lyndsey Smith, and Ontario field editor, Bernard Tobin, sat down late last week to tally up the many political messes in Ontario, including mayor Rob Ford’s many apparent transgressions. Why? Because it would seem that Ford’s black cloud has somehow ended up shadowing Ontario horse racing, even as the firing of Paul Godrey had offered a glimmer of sunshine to the industry.
