POLL: What is Most Important Consideration in a Tractor Purchase?

by

As you drive down the highway and see all the planters and seeders getting pulled through the fields you see many different brands of tractors. In some cases its the same tractor a certain farm has had for 20 years while other farms are constantly trading for new models.

The decision making of which tractor to buy is complex. With increasing data integration between tractor and implement, farmers have even more on their mind than just which color. At the same time my hunch is that color is still what drives us to certain brands. Recently Farm Journal did a survey asking their readers to provide a tractor brand snapshot and John Deere still powers ahead of the pack at 59% while Versatile was 1%.  The power of tractor brands drives very deep into the heart of many farmers.

Many farmers will tell you that at this point they will switch to different brands of tractors provided that the dealer has a strong service department. When you need something fixed, the color won’t save you, according to one farmer I spoke to.

So what is the most important consideration when buying a new tractor.  Is it the service provided by the dealer, the features of the tractor like horsepower and cab size, or does it all just come down to color.  Let us know in the poll below.
