Pulse School: Chuck Penner Weighs in on Pea & Lentil Market Direction

by

Farmers who had included pulses in their initial crop rotations for 2013 are likely to rewarded for sticking with the crop thanks to continued big demand and lofty prices for most crop types.

That’s according to Chuck Penner, owner of LeftField Commodity Research, who spoke with RealAgriculture.com’s Shaun Haney in this episode of the Pulse School.  (Click here for more episodes).

Green peas are sitting at lofty highs, with little to weigh them down in the near term, and India’s disappointing winter pulse crop is offering export demand support for peas as well as red lentils.  Penner notes that even if farmers have responded with higher acres of red lentils, somewhere north of two million, let’s say, there’s still strong demand to run through the tonnage. Listen to the interview above, or the video below to hear what he has to say about green lentils, yellow peas and the lowly chickpea (including whether or not he likes hummus).
