What's the Best Nozzle for Fusarium Control?

by

Targeting wheat heads requires a very different approach when spraying than when looking after the flag leaf — water volume and travel speed play a role, but it’s the upright, thin nature of the head that requires a switch in nozzles for best coverage.

In this interview, Ontario cereal specialist Peter Johnson reviews what it takes to properly stage a field for the optimal fungicide application timing when  targeting fusarium, and offers advice on nozzle selection to attack this particularly troublesome disease.

Johnson adds that now, heading and flowering, is also a key time in wheat’s life cycle — a herbicide injury could be disastrous. He reminds all farmers to take the extra time to clean out the sprayer, including end caps, so as not to end up with a very costly mistake
