Alberta Wheat Commission Hires New General Manager

by

On the first anniversary of the launch of the Alberta Wheat Commission (AWC), and following the retirement of Rick Istead from the position, the AWC is pleased to welcome Doug Cornell as the new General Manager.

Having developed and honed his skills in both start-up and corporate environments, Cornell is an entrepreneurial manager with an extensive background in agricultural production and management, commodity marketing and stakeholder/customer relations, AWC says in a press release.

“Doug is a great new addition to the AWC,” says Kent Erickson, chair of the AWC Board of Directors. “He’s a natural leader who believes in and supports team work. We are excited about the wealth of industry experience and the network of connections Doug will put to work for the Commission in the coming years.”

As General Manager, Cornell will be responsible for all aspects of the development and implementation of the AWC’s strategic initiatives including its marketing, research and producer engagement programs. Eager to put his senior management skills and experience to work for the AWC, Cornell says, “I’m looking forward to doing my part to ensure this organization does everything it can to help Alberta’s wheat producers thrive and be profitable.”
