An Agvocate's Guide to Effective Communication

It’s not every day that you get to meet two Twitter legends, let alone convince them to let you videotape the discussion that ensues. I was just so lucky last week, when I met Cami Ryan (@doccamiryan), researcher at the University of Saskatchewan, and Michele Payn-Knoper (@mpaynknoper), professional speaker and founder of Cause Matters Corp.

Michele and Cami were two of the three speakers of Innovation Week‘s “Communicating the Science of Agriculture Workshop.” So of course I had to corner them to talk about advocating for agriculture.

Now, if you’ve ever talked to me about “agvocacy,” you’re likely fully aware of the mixed feelings I have on the subject. There are so many stories we can tell as individuals, and as an industry, but are they effective? Who’s your audience? What message are you trying to get across? How should that change the way you communicate?

In this video, I talk to Cami and Michele about these very issues, and why they feel it’s important for agriculture and science to step up to the mic.
