Bees play an essential role as pollinators in food production, but did you know they’re also an integral part of top canola yields? While bees aren’t necessary for canola seed set, fields where bees have foraged will yield higher and benefit from a shorter flowering window. The importance of canola to bees is also significant; 80% of the honey produced in Canada is created by bees foraging on canola.

It’s this important relationship between canola and bees that means protecting these pollinators must be (and is ) a top priority for Western Canada’s canola growers. In this Canola School episode, Canola Council of Canada agronomy specialist, Gregory Sekuli?, offers tips on minimizing spray risks to bees in several ways, from minimizing actual spray passes, to communicating with bee keepers, to shifting the spraying schedule to keep the bees happy, healthy and working.
