PotashCorp to Cut Nearly 20% of Work Force; Most Job Losses in Saskatchewan

by

Noting the decision was “not easy” but a “necessary one,” PotashCorp president and chief executive, Bill Doyle, announced this morning job cuts of over 1,000 for the company. The bulk of the jobs lost (approximately 440) will be in Saskatchewan, then the next highest will be in Florida (350) and New Brunswick (140. Many of the job losses in Saskatchewan will be centered at Lanigan and Cory.

PotashCorp, Canada’s largest producer of potash and headquartered in Saskatchewan, says the long-term outlook for the industry is positive, however these cuts were “necessary” in the current environment and are “critical for future success,” says Doyle.
