John Deere unveiled the ExactEmerge high-speed planting unit at the National Farm Machinery Show (NFMS) in Louisville, Kentucky. Though it’s hard to imagine a unit that allows traditional seeding speeds to double, John Deere claims that under the right field conditions, it’s entirely possible to seed at 10mph with this new planter.

But what results can we expect from these high speeds? That’s exactly what RealAgriculture’s Ontario field editor, Bernard Tobin, hoped to find out when he caught up with Greg Smith of Cummings, Kansas — one of the few farmers at NFMS with ExactEmerge experience.
In the video below, Smith explains how the planter handled diverse soil characteristics, his observations on yield and whether or not he’ll be investing in an ExactEmerge planter as a result of the experience.
