From a distance, a nitrogen deficient canola plant and a sulphur deficient plant can actually look rather similar. It’s only once you get up close and compare it to plants from other areas of the field, that you can better assess what’s hampering growth of the crop.
In this episode of the Canola School, Dan Orchard, agronomy specialist with the Canola Council of Canada, shows us not just what to look for when assessing a nitrogen or sulphur deficiency, but why it’s important to use other plants as a comparison. What’s more, Orchard discusses the new growth vs. old leaves (tell-tale signs that alert farmers to which nutrient is deficient), plus offers up when it’s worth your time to try and correct a deficiency and the best application method to do so.
