RealAg Markets: A Look at Early 2014 US Planting Intentions & the Market Impact

by

Let’s call the March 31st USDA report the kickoff to the new growing season’s marketing year. Yes, markets are continuous and fluid, but this first glimpse of planting intentions for the U.S. is, for some, the first report in a while that really gets interesting.

This week, RealAgriculture editor, Lyndsey Smith, is joined by Jon Driedger, market analyst with FarmLink Marketing Solutions, in this edition of RealAg Markets.

As they recap in this audio interview, this particular USDA report has a big focus on corn, soy and wheat, as would be expected. Driedger goes over what surprises, if any, this report had and how the markets responded. After that, the discussion moves into some much smaller acreage crops — oats, flax and lentils, as these crops promise some very interesting developments for the 2014 growing season.
