TechTour: What Drives Herbicide Research & Innovation?

by

The factors involved in weed management decisions vary greatly from farm to farm, so many herbicide research projects deal with variances in weather, soil and weed population presence. Products and even rates, for example, will often be catered to a specific soil zone. And, with the growing threat of herbicide resistance, it boils down to more than this year’s crop.

“It’s like a lifestyle change. Sometimes you recognize that you have to make those changes in advance. Some people are fortunate because they make those adjustments, some actually get a warning shot across the bow and are in a panic or high anxiety stage,” says Len Juras, research scientist with Dow AgroSciences (DAS), who emphasizes the importance of stewardship in handling resistance issues.

In this stop of the Dow AgroSciences’ TechTour, Shaun Haney talks to Juras about DAS’s approach to chemical recommendation development, and the importance of catering to specific grower needs, including soil zones and weed profiles.
